About

Dave Addey is the creator of the website Typeset in the Future, a detailed, geeky, and humorous study of the design and typography of classic science fiction movies. He is a designer, writer, and software developer based in Santa Cruz, California.

Hi! I’m Dave Addey. I write about movies.

You might know me from Typeset in the Future, a blog (and now a book) about typography and design in science fiction movies. When I’m not spotting Eurostile Bold Extended in the background of every sci-fi movie ever made, I spend my time noting that the amazing Paddington movies are a love-letter to Amelié, or that WALL·E and Idiocracy are the same damn movie. And that’s why this site exists.

BTW: if there’s a movie that you’ve always thought is basically the same as that other one, I am open to suggestions for movies that would benefit from the SDM treatment. Please do post any suggestions as comments on this page.
